Bows of Summer

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather, so Jonathan decided to take me outside for a walk and some fresh air today. We headed over to Watters Creek to do a little shopping outdoors. However, we didn’t last too long in the Texas sun. Today’s high is only 94, but we’ve already hit triple digits this week and those numbers aren’t going very far away because next Monday’s high is a steaming 100. I wanted fabric that could breathe so I chose a slightly loose fitting top and seersucker shorts. While at Charming Charlie I spotted the most adorable hat and I had to have it! It tied in with the dirty gold stripes on my shorts, completed my look today, and protected me from the sun’s dangerous rays.

I’ve been wearing a lot of Jade jewelry lately. I raided my Mom’s jewelry box and she has almost every color jade. These are from Vietnam so they fit my wrist perfectly. Most bracelets that I buy here in the US (or probably anywhere for that matter) are too big for my tiny wrists. They either fall off or just don’t look right.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this hat! You’ll definitely be seeing more of it. The bow is simple, but large and stands out. I especially love how the tie on the bow is straw, just like the hat. To top it all off, it matches the bow on my top ;)

I’ve started reading The Prince and I really enjoy it thus far. Chocolate ice cream, flan cake, and Yann Tiersan sounds like a plan to escape this heat.

Gold & Navy

I don’t think there is a better color combination than gold and navy blue. I think there is something very regal, refined, and somehow romantic about these two colors together. The ruffles on the navy blue blouse pair well with the gold brocade skirt, creating a dimensional look. This look can be dressy or casual, which is an added bonus. If paired with classic gold-emblem Tory Burch flats they can a staple outfit for a nice day in class or lunch with my boyfriend, but when paired with gold-sequined Stuart Weitzman peep toe pumps they can be taken into the evening for movie night at the Angelika Film Center. Since a few of the sequins and beads in the bow embellishment on the navy blouse are cool toned, I was able to sparingly incorporate a little silver into my jewelry rather than just sticking to yellow gold.

This section is more beauty than anything, but instead of sticking with the coral pink lip colors I’ve been wearing lately (Laura Mercier’s Pink Dawn is my FAV), I decided to branch out and wear more of a sherry color. I kept my eyes simple with dark brown gel liner and a sweep of a dark peach blush without shimmer.

Green Leopard

Everyone knows that summers in Texas are BLAZING hot. I chose to stay cool today with a sheer light fabric in a unique Green Leopard print. The dress is breezy, soft, and feminine, but still has stand-out abilities. The only downside to this fabric is it will catch every minute bit of wind. Thank goodness the dress has hidden side pockets that I can put my cell phone in to keep the dress down if the wind decides to pay me a visit.
